The roof of the Alps – Mont Blanc 4808 m
The high-alpine tours on the Gran Paradiso and Mont Blanc are among the great challenges of the Alps. The Gran Paradiso, at 4,061 metres the highest summit entirely in Italy, offers an impressive glacier ascent and breathtaking views. Mont Blanc, at 4,808 metres the highest mountain in the Alps, challenges climbers with steep ascents and technical passages. Both summits offer a perfect combination of demanding glacier and rock routes and are a dream objective for experienced mountaineers who take on the challenge of conquering high-alpine peaks.
Itinerary
- Day 1
We meet on the south side of Mont Blanc in Pont in the Gran Paradiso National Park. Together we check the equipment and ascend to the Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele, where we spend the first night at 2775 m.
Walking time 2–3 h - Day 2
Before sunrise we leave the hut and climb across the glacier to the Gran Paradiso (4061 m). We climb the last metres to the legendary Madonna on the summit. We descend the same way back to the hut and spend another night here to acclimatise at this altitude. Walking time: approx. 7–9 h.
- Day 3
From the Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele we descend at a leisurely pace and drive to Chamonix. The Midi cable car takes us up to 3800 m. Across the wide glacier we walk to the Cosmiques hut, where we spend the night. Walking time approx. 2 × 2 h.
- Day 4
The day starts with a leisurely breakfast and is used for acclimatisation. We climb across the glacier to the Pointe Lachenal and then traverse the Lachenal. Ice walls, rock, climbing passages, abseils – we'll find all of this in a small area. Walking time: approx. 5–6 h.
- Day 5
We start while Chamonix is still asleep. The summit ascent of Mont Blanc takes time at this altitude. The route passes the Tacul and Maudit to Mont Blanc (4808 m). The descent largely follows the ascent track to the Aiguille du Midi, from where the cable car takes us back to Chamonix. Accommodation in a hotel; walking time approx. 12–14 h.
- Day 6
Over a shared breakfast we look back on the tour, followed by the journey home.
Mont Blanc
At 4808 m, Mont Blanc on the border between France and Italy is the highest mountain in the Alps
Chamonix
Chamonix is the starting point for many hikes and high-alpine tours in the Mont Blanc massif. Above Chamonix rises the highest mountain in the Alps, Mont Blanc, to a height of 4808 m. Chamonix itself has many small, hidden lanes offering fascinating views of the glaciers of the white giants.
