Wild and Remote Täschhorn Traverse
Summer · Mountaineering
Experience solitude on a demanding high-alpine tour
The Täschhorn traverse is a demanding and remote high-alpine tour in the Valais, leading to the Täschhorn summit (4,491 m) across glaciers and rock routes. This tour requires both technical climbing skills and experience in alpine terrain, as it crosses exposed passages and difficult glacier landscapes. Away from the mainstream, the route offers a quiet and impressive mountain landscape, making it a real adventure for experienced mountaineers looking for a challenge. The Täschhorn traverse is one of the most fascinating, but also most demanding tours in the Valais.
Itinerary
- Day 1
Ascent via part of the Europaweg to the Kin hut. The hut is rustic and impresses with its special atmosphere and an exceptionally good dinner. Overnight at the Kin hut.
- Day 2
An exciting day awaits us. We leave the Kin hut in the dark and first follow a hiking trail to the Kinfelsen ridge. Shortly afterwards we switch to the Kin glacier and follow it towards the summit. Then we tackle the north-west flank, which has the character of a north face and often reaches a steepness of 50°. The summit is not far now. The last metres to the 4,491 m Täschhorn lead along a short ridge. The view is overwhelming – from hardly any other summit do the surrounding mountains look so imposing. The descent follows the south-east ridge to the Mischabeljoch bivouac. From there we head uphill once more. Another short ridge leads us to the second 4000er, the Alphubel. Then a fairly easy route takes us to the Täsch hut, where we have dinner and spend the night.
- Day 3
After a leisurely breakfast we return to the car on hiking trails.
A wild one among the mountains
Whichever ridge, aspect or face – the Täschhorn is not an easy mountain, but a very beautiful, remote 4000 m summit in the Valais. A must for anyone who likes wild and varied mountains!
