Itinerary
- Day 1
In the morning we meet at the Kandersteg Oeschinen cable car valley station car park. After the cable car ride, the ascent begins past the famous Oeschinensee to the Blüemlisalp hut (1200 m elevation gain, approx. 4.5 hours).
- Day 2
Early in the morning we begin the approach to the north face. With the first rays of sunshine we climb the Blüemlisalphorn north face. The last metres follow the ridge to the summit cross. The way back leads via the north-west ridge with several abseils to the Rothorn saddle and then back to the cable car.
Blüemlisalphorn north face
The Blüemlisalphorn is the highest summit of the Blüemlisalp group. Together with the Morgenhorn (3623 m) and the Wyssi Frau (3650 m) it forms a striking trio in the Bernese Oberland. The north side of the Blüemlisalphorn is heavily glaciated; its dazzling white mantle of firn shines far into the Swiss Plateau. The name Blüemlisalp refers to a legend according to which a flowering alpine pasture lies buried beneath the ice. The north face is about 700 m high.
